Komakino's Federico Capalbo may have roots in Italy but his native country does not influence his recent collections. The brand name derives from the band Joy Division's 1980 single Komakino, the single has a "hypnotic" feel and a strong Japanese dance vibe which resonates in each season's collection. Komakino's strong mix of music and rebellion draws inspiration from the punk, goth and hippie youth of London. Now a London based designer, Federico sees how youth subcultures sense of individualism and self expression lends itself to fashion.
For this season's collection we elaborated on the nostalgia of academia for the inspiration in this photo series. With the overwhelming sense of school discipline and yearbook memories, we took different pieces of crinkled colored paper and created an array of still life images.
